Part I Children Day Series

November 20th is Universal Children Day but as we all know November 14th is celebrated Indian Children Day in honor of first Indian Prime Minister Pundit Jawaharlal Nehru. And what better way to celebrate the childrenhood than conversing about and connecting with our own children? Raising children is challenging in any society, times, and culture but that is made even more challenging when all those factors differ significantly between the two generation like for us immigrants who are raised in very different times, society, and culture that our children can hardly relate to and vice versa. But we the parents are the one who has to take the first step.

Guest: Dr. Ahsan Shaikh. Dr. Shaikh is a Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist at two Nonprofit Social Service agencies,   Eastfield Ming Quong Families First and Rebekah’s Childrens Services.  He has MD from The University of Michigan and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship from Stanford University. He was born in Karachi, Pakistan and moved to the United States at the age of 3 with his parents.  He grew up in Michigan and attended The University of Michigan for undergraduate and graduate studies.  He met his wife, Shehnaz , while completing his Residency in Psychiatry there and later they moved to the Bay Area in 2000.  They have three children,  ages eleven, nine and five.    He has been a guest panelist on the Childhood Matters radio program on KISS FM and does Cultural Competency trainings for The Islamic Networks Group (ING).
